What started as a way to access the less common yet ecologically important native species that we rely on in our designs soon grew into something much bigger.
Our nursery began in 2023 in our small backyard greenhouse, an 8’ x 6’ space that we quickly grew out of. By 2025, we expanded our growing space to support greater species diversity, improve availability, and ensure we always have the right plants on hand to keep our projects moving smoothly.
A core part of our nursery philosophy is provenance, which is the genetic and geographic identity of a plant. Choosing seeds and plants grown from locally-sourced stock is the foundation for resilient, long‑lasting gardens. Plants grown from regional seed and plant stock are genetically adapted to local soils, rainfall patterns, temperature swings, and the shifting climate of our coast. They establish more easily, support local wildlife, and contribute to healthier, more self‑sustaining landscapes.
By growing plants from local seeds and plant stock in local conditions, we’re able to offer plant material that is better adapted, more resilient, and ultimately more successful in the gardens and landscapes we create. Our nursery also allows us to work with species that are often hard to find, maintain high standards of quality, and bring more ecological richness to every project.
And at the end of the day, it’s simple: we love growing plants. It’s the part of our work that grounds us, inspires us, and keeps us connected to the living systems we care for.

While we currently don’t have a retail storefront for our nursery, we do sell native plants wholesale to landscapers and nurseries, as well as directly to individual residential clients. All orders are placed by email, and we’re happy to arrange local drop‑off within the Nanaimo area for a small fee.
