Based in Nanaimo, BC, we design, install, and maintain landscapes that are resilient, high‑performing, and beautiful, making them outdoor destinations.
North Arrow Landscapes is a passionate team who have dedicated
ourselves to the pursuit of excellence in the horticulture industry.
Members of our team have spent years in the classroom and the field as
students, instructors, and installers.
Our work is rooted in the understanding that our decisions can both disrupt and enhance a landscape. Our horticultural philosophy continues to evolve into a practice that blends artful ecological contribution with functional, place‑based design.
We specialize in naturalistic landscape design and work with you to develop site‑specific solutions that respond to your needs and the unique climate and ecology of Vancouver Island, from concept through construction and long‑term care. Check out our services page for the full list.

The north arrow represents our commitment to aligning our work in the landscape with a functional and ecological perspective.
A north arrow is a symbol on a map that is used to align the image relative to true north. As a symbol that provides clear direction, we feel the north arrow is a perfect metaphor for our company.
From our perspective, the urban landscapes we work in are part of a larger ecosystem, and need to function as quality habitat for people, animals, pollinators, and other insects alike.
So when we're on site, we work with the entire landscape to align the function and aesthetic of the space. It's our goal to put a creative touch on the landscape, never forgetting what's already there or what used to be there.
Through abundant education and field experience, we have learned to observe the way people interact with and move through a landscape. By creating beautiful, flowing, easily-maintained landscapes, we can enhance the way people spend time outdoors.
This is why we think of our designs as realigning a landscape, much in the way that a north arrow aligns a map. By thinking about how we interact with the land, we can integrate the built environment with nature in a mutually-beneficial and accessible way.
To us, this is a representation of the only way forward in the horticulture industry, our communities, and indeed our planet.
