Most likely neither plant community is getting the precise amount of water they need. For example, we will always keep gardens and lawns on separate irrigation zones, and never water sunny and shady locations together.

We have a firm belief that an ecologically-friendly garden should require watering no more than once per week during the hottest times of the summer. Depending on the plants, even established gardens can be trained to be less water dependent.
